• Decentralization of diagnosis to regions with disease foci
• Strengthening of epidemiologic surveillance

• Polymerase chain reaction in a single tube
• Risk reduction of contaminating the reaction
• Faster diagnosis
• Easier transportation due to the use of lyophilized reagents
• Established stability and shelf life
